Review of 2046 (2004) by Lee B — 04 Nov 2008
Finally made it through this. I watched the first 30 minutes before and had to give it back to whom I got it from. It certainly wasn't as welcoming as other Wong Kar-wai movies. With that, I still struggled in the beginning, but as always beautifully photographed and great emotion.
My only criticism is that It was hard at first and didn't create the same emotion with the future scenes as others. And Leung has shown more emotion in Infernal Affairs, In the Mood, even Lust Caution - but maybe that was the director's choice.
Gong Li, of course, saves and dazzles in the end portion and Zhang Ziyi surprised me. Still good. See it and don't worry about the first 2 movies too much.
