Review of 2046 (2004) by Ranran Z — 30 May 2010
Alike Fellini's "Otto e Mezzo" the film reveals to us the world of expression through art and delves into the mind of the artist. Transporting us to the world of yesterday, 2046 presents us with characters trapped in their irrepressible and unresolved memories. In the search for answers we see them block themselves off from the present or the future as times still goes by. Year after year, Christmas after Christmas and we're enclosed like our characters to the same old scenery, never progressing, never finding conclusions to questions that they will probably never discover the answers to.
It is through memories that we form who we are and how we live our lives. Wong Kar Wai's masterpiece conveys how memories of love are so impressionable on us and how the torment of it's memory can halt our lives.
