Review of 2019: After the Fall of New York (1983) by Dougal S — 03 Jul 2010
In a post-apocalyptic world the survivors seek safety whilst being stalked by a gang of highly camp bikers called the Templars who rush around offing people in their souped up dune buggies (which come compete with an impressive array of weaponary). Lone warriors Scorpio and Nadir arrive on the scene and pitch into conflict with the Templars to try and save the remains of humanity.
The third in Enzo Castellari's self proclaimed Bronx Warriors trilogy - despite it having nothing to do with the previous two films aside from re-using a few of the actors.
This time the source material is Mad Max (rather than The Warriors) which Catellari shamelessly rips off in a cavalier fashion and manages to make a highly enjoyable romp.
A typical 80s Italian rip-off-flick, New Barbarians turns it's source material up to ten and delivers a action packed tale of hokum and violence. The usual array of B-Movie actors make the most of the script and go at it with camp gusto throughout. Short on budget it makes up for it in inventively violent deaths and over the top car chases.
For fans of this sort of film it probably doesn't get any better. If you're new to this sort of crazy flick then check it out - but leave your brain in neutral and just have some fun.
