Review of 2010 (1984) by Christian N — 13 Jun 2008
At first I was going to say the only remarkable thing about 2010 is how many scenes I found could quote from memory after seeing it on cable so many times as a kid. But that wouldn't exactly be fair -- it's still got a lot going for it.
It's just not all that entertaining without the Reagan-era/Cold War politics to prop up its themes. Nevertheless it did remind me how much Roy Scheider ruled, and how much better we've gotten since the '80s at delivering exposition.
("Dear Caroline: We're about to set our ship on fire deliberately in hopes that it slingshots us around Jupiter. It's never been done before and we're all freaking terrified. I'll let you know how it goes.
TTFN.").
