Review of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) by Stanley F — 02 Jun 2018
Just been to see "2001:A Space Odyssey " on the big screen on its 50th Anniversary- what a complete privilege -.
For the uninitiated- the scope and vision and sheer technical excellence of a film made in 1968 and still as relevant, as enigmatic, as audacious in its ambition, as overwhelming in its imagery and as wonderfully deep in its appreciation of the human development through the ages of man.
A score that is as powerful as any other part, not relying on any charismatic acting to carry the plot, although the acting is excellent, this film conveys the human experience as a development of consciousness, as I have experienced it , better than any other film I have seen.
It's certainly a trippy experience, and everyone can have their own personal explanation of its meaning, but it has to be one of the most important films ever made, and has been firmly in my top 5 for years- I cannot see it ever dropping out.
