Review of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) by Vguru R — 27 Aug 2014
"A film is - or should be - more like music than like fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings. The theme, what's behind the emotion, the meaning, all that comes later." - Stanley Kubrick.
What Kubrick is saying here is that film is like music an emotional journey, but a film is done visually. BUT! Most of the time you need compelling characters to get an emotional journey out of the audience, but Kubrick could do it all visually without characters. That is one of the big and great accomplishments made by the master.
