This film is the epitome of what all science-fiction, in some shape or form, tries to be. Not only does it combine the awe-inspiring and thought-provoking plots of one of science-fiction's greatest story weavers, Sir Arthur C.

Clarke, but it also sprinkles in a bit of quintessential Stanley Kubrick filmmaking. Not only was it fulfilling in it's creativity and awe, but it also fulfills the average nerd/sci-fi fanatics dream for a film not only somewhat plausible and realistic (can I hear a shout of approval for no sound in the vacuum of space?), but to still be amazing and inspiring.

From the rather slow beginning of man (or rather, his evolutionary ancestors) to the amazing transition from corporeal being into something much greater, 2001 never ceases to amaze the viewer, even after millions of viewings.

Most certainly one of the best science-fiction films ever (and ever-to-be) made.
