Review of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) by Martin R — 22 Feb 2015
It might not be within everybody's emotional or intellectual grasp--I won't even pretend that I "got" the film. However, there's a reason that "2001" is held in such high regards; and on a technical/visual level, I have never seen anything like this.
This is Stanley Kubrick at his prime, a man who, despite having some major restrictions (in terms of sfx compared to now), was able to make a film that, honestly, couldn't have been made in his time by anyone else.
Its legacy is cemented within the film itself and the countless others that have been born because of the ingenious, revolutionary techniques employed by Mr. Kubrick. And on blu-ray, the presentation is even more memorizing! Christopher Nolan, take notes, and if you did, take more notes.
