Review of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) by Ryan L — 11 Oct 2015
One of the most iconic sci-fi films of all time, 2001: A Space Odyssey is quite the film. This is a movie where people either love it, hate it, or are somewhere in between. The best place to start about talking about this film are the visuals and cinematography.
Its possibly the greatest I have ever seen. Each shot in this movie is so vivid and colorful with its great sets. Kubrick, being known for his photography skills prior to his directing, really shows off his talents with the camera.
The movies first 20 minutes with apes was a very interpretation of the dawn of time. Also, the film may have one of the greatest villains of all time, HAL 9000. A human computer who has a vital part in the story.
The lack of more engaging dialogue (there's probably about 75 words said in this almost 2 and a half hour film) and emotion is the main flaw in the film, but that not what you should be really taking in while watching it.
The ending is also unsatisfactory and beyond confusing leaving you with a billion questions. Overall, 2001 has an fascinating enough story and jaw dropping visuals to make movie lovers enjoy this film.
