Review of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954) by Stefan G — 18 Jun 2013
It's a vivid nautical tale from the 50's, and it has some interesting ideas. The plot is pretty good, but it doesn't seem to focus on what matters, and with its 2-hour runtime, I feel that the movie could have been a bit shorter.
The characters themselves are supported by some pretty fine acting, especially from the narrator, who plays the Nautilus' organ to great effect. Speaking of that, the film's style is worthy of praise, especially with the narrator playing classical songs on the Nautilus' organ.
There isn't much action, but whatever action scenes that do appear aren't really too bad. Overall, this is one of those important films from the old days, but it can still be enjoyed.
