Review of 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) by James R — 29 Mar 2015

This one is definitely a low point in the whole The Fast and Furious franchise. Vin Diesel reportedly hated the script so much even he bounced out of it. This time around Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) is slumming it around Miami, racing and working out of a garage since he lost his badge and job after the events of the first film.

He's caught racing one night and comes back into contact with Agent Bilkins (Thom Barry) who along with Agent Markham (James Remar) enlist Brian's help to take down a importer/exporter named Carter Verone (Cole Hauser).

Brian enlists his own help with Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson) an old friend who did some hard time. Brian and Roman pose as drivers for Carter while working with another undercover agent Monica Fuentes (Eva Mendes).

This time around Brian has to work to balance his opportunity to be get his record clean and staying alive. The movies plot is super shitty. Not much actually makes sense when you think about it. I understand they need Brian and Roman's help to catch Carter red handed, but man was it executed poorly.

The film does have its moments, but man do they start getting way over the top (the ending Dukes of Hazards like sequence comes to mind). Paul Walkers acting is still terrible, but slightly better than the first film.

Tyrese's character Roman is supposedly like a comedic relief/token black dude? He just comes off as super annoying throughout the film (which thankfully only happens in this movie...in the future films he's much more less Tyrese).

Overall, easily the worst film in the franchise. It's a skip unless you're binge watching em like me...ugh.
