Review of 1941 (1941) by Ben R — 18 Apr 2013
This was Steven Spielberg's first major turd after his string of highly successful 70s blockbusters. This movie couldn't decide if it wanted to be a comedy or a straight ahead 1940s war movie. It fails on both levels and the actors tried their best but seemed lost.
John Belushi is here after his major breakthrough from Animal house. It seemed like John' was in a totally different movie than everyone else, because he overacted to the point of unintentional comedy.
Dan Aykroyd seems very bored and John Candy seems to be happy he's in anything at this point. I'm amazed all parties associated with this movie made a decent career for themselves, because if this had been a different director their career would have been over after this sweaty turd of a war comedy.
The two positives were the sexy as always Nancy Allen and the crazy goofball character that Ned Beatty played. It really sucks to say but Dan Aykroyd,John Candy and John Belushi really phoned their performances in.
