Review of 1776 (1972) by Nicholas R — 04 Jul 2008
Almost felt like it could be a camp classic, but it's really not bad enough for that. 1776 is ultimately just a bad idea, which really couldn't have been saved no matter how good its execution was.
The founding fathers dancing to Cool, Considerate Men and Richard Lee's prancing (literal prancing) make West Side Story's ballet knife fights look normal by comparison. The saving grace is William Daniels' performance as John Adams, which is leagues better than Paul Giamatti's depiction of Adams in the recent biographic miniseries.
