Review of 16 Blocks (2006) by Rocknblues 8 — 29 Sep 2009
Decent crime thriller that is nearly a remake of Clint Eastwood's The Gauntlet. Bruce Willis gives one of his more inspired efforts of the decade playing an old worn down detective that must escort a small time criminal to a courthouse before corrupt cops stop the criminal from testifying in court. Mos Def plays the small time criminal and David Morse plays the lead detective trying to track them down.
I would say that this is not the best deep movie. As I said, if you've seen The Gauntlet, you've basically seen this movie. But it fills a 2 hour time slot if you don't have much to do. Mos Def might bother some folks with the way he talks. I can understand how it would be distracting, but it adds some awkwardness to this standard crime thriller. Truthfully, for that reason, it doesn't bother me so much. But I will add that this movie does contain a slight surprise.
