Review of 15 Minutes (2001) by Cal ( — 17 Sep 2007
A very intriguing concept for a film executed with some exciting, taut action and very good performances, but it's a shame the script can't get any appraisal. De Niro, as always, is at his finest here as a celebrity cop who hosts his own show as he catches criminals on camera.
A bunch of European tourists arrive in America and start committing unintended murders while filming them with a video camera. The two soon decide to use their camera and film more murders, selling the footage to the highest bidder in the media.
Detective Eddie Fleming (De Niro) teams up with an arson investigator (Burns) to solve the mystery of these murders. Quite gruesome at times, especially when people are murdered, and the action scenes are quite violent as well.
In addition, it's an interesting look at how obnoxious and self-centred journalists are. '15 Minutes' was a concept promised much more than the script ultimately delivered.
