Review of 13th (2016) by Kyle G — 07 Apr 2017
Mere statistics on the prison population do not convince me that there is wrongful imprisonment occurring. Cutting between footage of actual abuse from the mid-century segregation era and footage of some white guy pushing some black woman in the modern day does not make for a fair comparison of then and now. Institutional prejudice does exist in America, but this doc did a terrible job presenting a solid argument that would make conservatives see it as anything other than liberal propaganda. The Trump voiceover was especially bad because he wasn't explicitly referring to blacks at all. Trump is an easy target, but his trove of stupid quotes should only be accessed when pertinent.
So this doc gets a low rating because it did not make a good case for the problem it claims exists.
