Review of 13 Tzameti (2006) by Eduardo C — 06 Mar 2007
Simple, effective, often harrowing but ultimately pointless. The film is not a character study, not a satire, it simply takes its subject at face value and proceeds from there. The sidestory involving the police is irrelevant and the ending seems arbitrary, contrived, simply used to bring a false sense of closure to the proceedings.
The choice to use true black-and-white was the correct one, as the 'game' sequences wouldn't have worked nearly as well in color, but the artistry behind the camera fails to elevate this one past the level of a curiosity, albeit a well made one.
