Review of 13 Assassins (2010) by Julien E — 23 Sep 2011
A samurai film set in the Edo period with some harrowing first scenes where I had to cover my eyes (oh yeah it's a Miike film). Goro Inagaki (not just the shy guy of veteran boy band SMAP) plays the heinous lord Narisugu who is the target of the 13 assassins.
The meticulous care in painting all the characters truly pays off in the climatic massacre in the final part of the film. A commanding achievement and thoroughly engaging.
