Review of 13 Assassins (2010) by Joe T — 22 Jan 2012
The ultra-violence at the beginning of "13 Assassins" at first shocked the hell outta me, then made me cringe so deep that there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted the antagonist dead. In a film like this, that a very important quality to have in your villain role and director Miike primed me up and had me going at his throat.
The rest of "13 Assassins" is every bit as good at keeping you invested in the characters. Characters whose names you probably won't remember, but their distinct looks and personalities stay in your mind.
"13 Assassins" is a bloody revenge tale, in the direct vein of "Seven Samurai", and it is also every bit as good.
