Review of 13 Assassins (2010) by Pete K — 03 May 2012
A nicely-done remake of the 1963 movie. Director Miike's background in the horror/gore genre works well to create a thoroughly-despicable villain in Lord Naritsugu Matsudaira. More time could have been spent on developing the 13 heroes, however, so that their deaths meant a little more.
And just like the original film, one can't help but draw parallels to the immortal Kurosawa's 'Seven Samurai'.
