Review of 13 Assassins (2010) by Justin A — 05 Jan 2015
Maybe it's just me, but I didn't think it was THAT good. It was okay, kind of a typical Japanese action movie. The buildup and first half was awesome. The second half of action was cool, but very familiar and it felt like something I had seen before (I haven't seen it in a while, but I was thinking of the movie Azumi). Outside of Sinzaemon I had a hard time caring about any of the characters. I think that's why I had a hard time caring once the action started and people are getting killed left and right. I didn't even know many of their names, let alone caring if they get killed off or not. Not that I wanted another hour to get to know each character, but that's why I had a hard time caring when they were getting killed off.
It was okay. It's a shame that this may be Takashi Miike's most famous movie because it's not his best.
