Review of 127 Hours (2010) by Eddie G — 17 Apr 2012
Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire - Best Picture, 2008) and James Franco (Spider-Man trilogy) team up to tell the true story of Aron Ralston, a hiker who got his right arm pinned between a rock and a canyon wall.
Franco earned an Oscar nomination for his performance as Ralston and he rightfully deserved every accolade that came his way. His range of emotions throughout the movie are the driving force behind everything.
And behind everything is Mr. Danny Boyle, visionary director of such films as Trainspotting and Sunshine. His direction of Franco is masterful. According to Franco himself, Boyle would do 10-20 minute takes.
This was done to allow James the freedom to explore and create. Boyle also uses unique elements to get the audience to really feel what it would've been like to be stuck in that canyon. Never before has dehydration been so expertly displayed on film! In short, see it if you haven't.
And if you have, watch it again because this is one very special piece of filmmaking. 10/10.
