Review of 12 Years a Slave (2013) by Kurt F — 24 Jun 2014
Noteable (Fassbender is on my speed dial for my feature) and un-noteable (Pitt must have given a lot of money to the film to be cleared on that accent which totally seems out of place compared to the rest of the film) performances with the overall film sacrificing by having to stick to much to a journal rather then a story.
Also going from "strong willed" to "say nothing" in a matter of a transition, introducing character w/o a reason for appearing much less "why", setup consequences w/o shown results (what happened to the guy that ratted him out- where did he go?), and a slew of other little things that McQueen coulda done better with (and has proven so in the last 2 films).
