McQueen's masterpiece is much like Speilberg's "Schindler's List", in the sense that it is so realistic in its portrait of a horrid time in human history, that it is often hard to watch.
But also like that film, it eventually proves itself impossible to dismiss and moves us with its real-life heroes.
