Review of 12 Years a Slave (2013) by Marcus N — 19 Aug 2014
To say this film isn't great is an understatement to it's craftsmanship. The story is constantly engrossing with vivid images that will leave you battered with disbelief. Solomon Northup story is breathtaking and completely unnerving.
The acting across the board of leads and supporters should get praise for their performances. It's riveting how much emotion they display and how much you find yourself completely feeling each and every whiplash.
I wasn't always on board with this film but at the end of the running time I couldn't help but be sat up and in awe of this films accolades. So many traits to make a good film and they nail everyone down to make a great film.
12 years a slave might not be my favorite of the year but it's easily one of the best of the year. I feel like I witnessed one of the most eery experiences in film ever. Mixed emotions run deep for me through this film and the story paces great and the direction carries the movie into it's complete heartfelt state. Great job to everyone involved.
Must watch this soon.
