Review of 12 Years a Slave (2013) by Shane K — 07 Oct 2014
The story soars and the message is accurate, twelve years a slave manages to be the most accurate portrayal of how evil slavery is. The devastation that comes through the story and disturbing images leave a mark in your head, even as you walk out of theater the people who watched it beside you will either be in tears or speechless.
Steve McQueen's direction is perfection, he's able to captivate everything that shows for Solomon Northrup's struggle to keep pushing forward and to survive. Steve McQueen should be applauded for his work, this movie should go down in history as his best film and one of the greatest films in movie history.
As for the actors everyone shines in this film, in my opinion good or bad role that everyone played, they all standout for their portrayal of accuracy for everyone's thoughts and actions that are described in this film during that time of slavery, however Michael Fassbender steals the show for playing the crazy plantation owner and Chiwetel Ejofor and Lupita Nyong'o are definitely the heart of the film and they bring such motivational people to life.
Overall the story of struggle to survive, such harsh conditions, and brutal actions can never be forgotten due to Steve McQueen's direction, the cast's portrayal of the characters, and actions in this film make it a masterpiece of complete description of slavery.
It is essential to be known and seen.
