Review of 12 Years a Slave (2013) by Thomas Q — 30 May 2015
A well-executed movie that is thoroughly engaging & allows viewers to see the brutality of racism in early America. Much better than Steven McQueen's previous films without a doubt. Though I do take problem with the fact that we are made to feel sorry for Solomon because he is a 'free negro' caught in slavery, but how about the millions of other people who were born into slavery? That's my only issue with this movie, which is big enough for me I to want Gravity to win Best Picture.
