Review of 12 Strong (2018) by George J — 22 Jan 2018
Lot of people don't know that it took less than 100 Special Forces.
Soldiers to topple the Taliban government. This is the amazing story of.
The first battle and first unit to fight the Taliban after 9/11, ODA 595. Lots of action. Fast paced. Chris Hemsworth did a great job portraying the attitude of an A Team leader and his relationship with his team. As did Michael Shannon's portrayal of a Team SGT. I enjoyed the scene in the first part of the movie where the team SGT tells Col Bowers that Cpt Mitch Nelson (Mark Nutsch in real life) is not the type to allow his career get in the way of a good fight. It also captured the spirit of a Special Forces team. There could have been more character development with the other members of the team and what their jobs were. It kind of leaves you with the impression that the A Teams whole job was to call in air strikes when that was only one of the tools they had to deploy. Some lessons from Tears of the Sun would have been useful. The movie touches on it, but I would have liked to have seen more on the relationship between the Special Forces soldiers and the members of the Northern Alliance and their following an Afghan plan to combat the Taliban. Lessons that should have been developed and not forgotten. Overall this is a movie well worth watching. I enjoyed it.
