Review of 12 and Holding (2006) by Kai B — 14 Jun 2008
Here's a movie that I have anxiously waited to see for two years and was glad to finally have found. I am unsure if you can ever truly be in the mood to watch a movie like this and to prep you to watch this, all I can say is, watch the trailer and read the synopsis and jump in (despite any hesitations you might have) because this movie takes you far and the messages run deep.
These 12-year-olds deal with so much, and their stories go so far to question on how to raise kids and what the best way is, what is it like to be that age, and are your kids going through similar problems.
I also felt that many of the other characters, the older characters, the adults, are no better off than some of these kids because we all face problems and at what age do we reach maturity and become considered adults.
Many times, yes, these are kids and they make some interesting mistakes, but a couple of the adults are in the same position because no matter where you are in life, there will always be miscommunication, missed signals, narrow perspectives.
This movie places the viewer in an outsider's perspective where he can see into the lives of these kids and those around them and be able to see the "full" story. I think anyone who gives a damn about a movie, and thinks of movies as more than entertainment should watch this movie and move on past some of the awkward as well as disturbing moments of this movie, for it raises so many great points and delivers some great messages.
