Review of 11:55 (2017) by Gary P — 11 Jun 2016
Easing its way through the introduction of the main characters of this truly gritty, indie film, filmmakers Ben Snyder and Ari Issler waste no time to bring you into the world of Nelson Sanchez. An unforgiving world, set in a mere skeleton of a town, that once thrived but now runs rampant with an underbelly that teeters on the precipice of life and death.
11:55 has the feel and vibe of the original style indie films of the early 90s. Exquisitely shot, on location in the ghettos of Newburgh, New York. Just as he arrives from Afghanistan, Nelson (Victor Almanzar) takes us on his personal journey of redemption. His desire to leave the past behind, embrace the future and its possibilities, with his determined fiance (Shirley Rumierk) are the fuel for this film - played with strength, love and unwavering determination by the always wonderful, Shirley Rumierk.
Besides the two leads, there are many standout and enthralling performances in this cast - Elizabeth Rodriguez, David Zayas, John Leguizamo, Julia Styles and Mike Carlsen. Go see!
