Review of 10,000 BC (2008) by Esteban G — 28 Dec 2011
This epic is set in prehistoric time as the title suggests, 10000 B.C. There are several historic innacuracies throughout the movie but nevertheless if you can get past that you will enjoy this film as an action epic similar in some way to Apocalypto (although not nearly as good in my opinion since the acting and english speaking language didnt work).
I also think Emmerich did not like the ending of 300 and decided to make a movie in which this time the warrior doesnt miss the god. This epic begins with a narration of the prophesy of a small mountain tribe where a warrior will be born who will deliver not only his people but all of civilization.
This warrior will fall in love with the blue-eyed girl (played by the beautiful Camilla Belle). Once we hear the prophecy it is time to live it out and we are introduced to D´Leh, a young man whose father left several years ago and therefore is seen as the son of a coward by the rest of the tribe.
When hunting season begins, D´Leh is the first one to slay the mammoth and therefore he becomes the warrior from the prophecy and gets to claim the love of his life, Evolet the blue eyed girl. The plot begins when the tribe is attacked by a group of warlords and his people are taken away (along with Evolet).
D´Leh and a few of the men that were left behind decide to travel the vast lands in order to rescue their people and on the way they have to face several prehistoric creatures and all kinds of climates.
On the journey D´Leh disscovers new tribes that join them on the hunt and the truth about his father. Overall the movie can be enjoyable if these inaccuracies are put to the side, the acting and english speaking language can be overlooked by the cool visual effects.
There have been similar epics made so there is nothing original about this movie which also lacks a good dialogue, but I have to admit I was entertained in the theater.
