Review of 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) by Joey F — 10 Oct 2016
I hate the first Cloverfield, and the found footage style in general. So when I saw that this movie existed, I had no interest whatsoever. Then I heard that it wasn't found footage, so I decided to give it a chance, and boy am I glad I did.
This isn't a dumb monster movie. In truth, there's no reason for this to be tied to Cloverfield in the slightest. This is a really smart, really tense, really claustrophobic mystery thriller type thing, and it's awesome.
John Goodman does a fantastic job toeing the line between likable and creepy, and the other actors are pretty good too. My only gripe is that certain subplots felt very underdeveloped. There's one in particular (that I won't spoil) that I really thought was going somewhere but ended up just not mattering at all.
In the end, I still highly recommend it.
