Review of 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) by Andy D — 05 Mar 2017
I love JJ Abrams. The fact that his Bad Robot studio snuck this out without anyone really even knowing it was under production is just brilliant.
I loved the original Cloverfield movie, and I was intrigued to see how this sequel would fit into the Cloverfield 'universe'.
Its essentially a set-piece, with nearly the entire movie set in an underground bunker, with only the 3 main actors on screen. The character development is excellent, and John Goodman in particular is superb. Is he the bad guy? Isn't he? Whats he up to? Has there been an attack? Is he nuts? All will be revealed eventually, as the movie finally breaks out in the last act, and how it actually fits into the Cloverfield story is not entirely made clear. But this stuck with me, and I found myself thinking about it lots the day after watching it, so in that respect it did its job.
Its not brilliant, but certainly worth a look.
