Review of Waterloo (1970) by Garrett C — 23 Jul 2018
While the end of the story is known and its a big subject to tackle, the movie does a good job of feeling extremely accurate and staggeringly epic. The battle scenes are rightly famous and Steiger and Plummer do a good job of anchoring the chaos with their inner conflicts.
The script feels a little too clumsy at times, although the use of many direct quotes again made the film feel more authentic. It can feel a little too much like a turn based strategy game sometimes i.
E. just hoards of men shooting at each other with muskets, but it had good character stuff here and there. I wish they would give it a better home release where the aspect ratio was larger so you can appreciate the great cinematography and costumes better.
