Review of The Housemaid (2010) by Dimitri J — 18 Sep 2010
The ending's more interesting than the rest of the movie when it gets surreal and the focus shifts to the little girl in whom seeds of evil, violence and suicide have been planted...
The last "family" scene demonstrates vividly the illusion the super rich has been living in... who're in fact rotten to the core...
Some scenes of love-making are almost funny... while other parts of the movie are infused with unsettling menace and imminent danger...
The immaculate mansion of the family is in stark contrast to what's inside each of the resident's heart...
The film feels Strinbergian... like the ghost sonata.
There's also seems to be a feminist undertone and a latent critique of korean society (especially at the beginning when a woman jumps from a roof to her death).
