Review of The Big Blue (1988) by Sugarfall S — 21 Aug 2014
The American version I watched in theatres at a very untenable time of my life is barely detectable. It's mystic trek into the deep water where I grew up holding my breath and suffering from the bends immediately seduced me.
Nothing I have ever seen has ever touched me so personally and intimately as these journeys into the sadness of an ocean of longing and grief. I pray when my time comes I too can swim off into her and be lost forever.
This movie is terrifyingly intense and mythical, questioning more than it even attempts to answer and demonstrating that the human soul is beyond measure or understanding even when it is we ourselves we try to find and grasp.
Thank you for this! Thank you!
