Review of Stone (2010) by Gerald L — 22 Jun 2012
This is a very good movie and I think most reviewers, including the professionals, miss one of its points. The noir plot is just a scaffolding for some profound exploration of spirituality and personal transformation.
You'll have to see the movie for yourself to judge, but, like all good dramas, it focuses on characters who are forced to change, or suffer. The acting is very fine, and I especially liked Mila Jovavich's work: she doesn't get a chance to act much in her other recent films.
Of course Norton and DeNiro are masterful. It seems reviewers are stunned or numbed by the fact that there is a lot of evangelical talk radio in this movie: it is a key element and I leave it to the viewer to decide whether it is successful.
I thought it was.
