Review of Smart People (2008) by Len F — 20 Jan 2009
One of those small-budget gems that kinda get lost in the Hollywood shuffle, "Smart People" is a clever look at familial relationships, as related by a self-absorbed professor (Dennis Quaid), a doctor (and former student) (Sarah Jessica Parker), his precocious intelligent daughter (Ellen Page), and his nitwit adopted brother (Thomas Haden Church).
This movie would've rated higher for me had the relationship between Quaid's and Parker's characters been a little more believable, but I could relate to many of the characters' interactions (especially Page's and Church's, who were exceptional) to make up for the film's shortcomings.
