Review of Queen Margot (1994) by Heather M — 30 Jun 2007
I was really impressed with this period drama, not least because the French protestants of that time (the Huguenots) were the first 'refugees' of England and settled in the Brick Lane area of London.
For me, the violence helps to deliver the dramatic impact of the bloody St. Bartholomew's massacre. The scene where Queen Margot goes into the street in the early hours and seduces La Mole - wow! A very intense and passionate scene that quite simply takes your breath away.
There is courage, brutality, intrigue, love and pain. I felt as though I had truly stepped into 16th century France witnessing the poverty, hunger, conflict and mayhem of that period. An excellent period film with a truly formidable and believable cast.
Who cannot help but fall for the charm of Vincent Perez? An all-time favourite for me.
