Review of Post Tenebras Lux (2012) by Theodore F — 08 Jun 2013
A hyper-real naturalism alternates with the startlingly dream-like in Carlos Reygada's experimental and spiritual drama about class, sex, childhood, and death. Set in rural Mexico and shot though a lens that is liquid smeared at its edges (objects and people that pass through are briefly blurred/doubled), a uniquely hypnotic and holy catharsis is reached.
