Review of Palindromes (2005) by Alexandre C — 26 Nov 2006
Fascinating! Several different actors of varying gender, ethnicity, age and body type play Aviva. All she wants, at the age of thirteen, is to have a baby, and her mother steps in to make sure that doesn't happen.
The different Avivas treated as the same person (the pictures on her parents' walls even change to reflect the performer) is disorienting and magical. The anti-abortion people in this unsettling tale are murderers, but the mother hustling her daughter to the doctor comes off badly, too.
Like nothing else I've seen.
