Review of Monsieur Hulot's Holiday (1953) by Amar K — 05 May 2011
This is not a comedy of gleefulness to begin with. It's a comedy of nostalgia, memory and warmth. As this movie celebrates amused fondness of queer/precious/singular human nature, Mr Hulot remains all around oblivious; as if he has unearthly acceptance in his behavior even if nothing goes as planned.
Even while watching this movie once more, it never seems that we are seeing the film again; it's like returning to the hotel again. Captured yearning for the past happiness per se.
And the special mention of the scene where Hulot paints his kayak. Marvelous !!
