Review of Life and Debt (2001) by Thomas W — 10 Aug 2007
One of the more effective and affecting pieces of political cinema that I've viewed. This documentary uses Jamaica as a case study with which to dissect, in plain language, the wrenching everyday impact of the brutal market fundamentalism that is at the heart of the "globalization" project and all its false promises.
Put down the latest exercise in market cheerleading by Tom Friedman and listen, instead, to an average person talk about how financial institutions have "bettered" their everyday standard of living.
