Review of Life and Debt (2001) by John M — 03 Oct 2008
Aside from being insulted by the tourist remarks, this was a very interesting film. (As a tourist of Jamaica, 90% of the time I stay in local Guest Houses and eat only food from local restaurants and markets. And my next trip will be at an Eco-Village, where I will volunteer my skills to help the local community. ).
The IMF and WTO are killing the smaller nations. In essence, they are re-enslaving people and nations by lending them money!
Seeing how "The Man" took advantage of Jamaica by putting them in debt, gives me an eerie feeling. Isnâ??t that whatâ??s happening to Middle Class Americans right now? Lenders gave us more money than we could afford to pay back with some disturbing strings attached (i.e. interest only arm Mortgages & high rate Credit Cards). But, like Jamaica, we agree to the terms even though they are very unfair. It seems as though American Corporations have squeezed Jamaica for all they could and have now turned inward on their own people.
