Review of Last Life in the Universe (2003) by Bhavic N — 05 Jun 2007
The incredible beauty of this film is in its contrasts... despair and desolation, met by contemplation and apathy... poverty and squalor, met by acceptance and indifference... a tragedy met by fantasy.
.. a japanese man who hates sushi, in Thailand where he barely speaks the language with a Thai girl who is learning to speak japanese. One of the most beautiful, unusual relationships you will ever see developing on screen.
Hell, watch it just for Asano Tadanobu if you need a reason.
