Review of King Kong (1933) by Adam N — 30 Nov 2008
The ultimate "monster-movie" even over 75 years later this is still the film to judge all others by. Cooper and Schoedsack created not only a monster, or a movie, but a legend in his own right - Kong.
Perhaps only Godzilla can rival him, but Kong was there first, and rightly holds his crown. Okay, so the effects are very crude by todays standards, yet hey still have a magical effect that looks astounding today, the care and attention to detail is in every shot, and in the end, it's not Denham we feel sorry for, nor even Darrow (played by the fabulous Fay Wray), but the Beast himself.
Kong may have been slain by those bi-planes but his place in history is cemented forever by this timeless classic.
