The most heartbreaking tale of the grievous pursuit of true love I have ever seen set to celluloid. Painful and brilliant in it's delivery. I will never forget this powerful film. Images and words have been burned into my mind.
The script adaptation of the novel by 'Thomas Hardy' is a wonderful translation to cinematic form. The performances of Kate Winslet & Christopher Eccleston made me shiver under their sheer strength.
See it, but not recommended for a first date viewing.
