Review of Faces (1968) by Private U — 11 Jun 2007
This film is, in my opinion, perfect. Or pretty damn near, anyway. Cassavetes once said in an interview that he thought of himself as probably one of the worst directors in (or outside of) Hollywood, but let me tell you: it's a dirty lie.
How this man was able to pull out from his actors these amazing performances is beyond me. The emotion, the depth, the sincerity--it's all off the proverbial charts. Some of this is due to the amazing script, of course, but that too was the work of Cassavetes.
This is the film Woody Allen is trying so desperately to make with his more serious efforts (e.g. "Interiors").
