Review of Evil Dead Trap (1988) by Curtis F — 16 Aug 2007
Wow, a Japanese slasher movie! Well, where to start? First off, there's a clear Italian influence. The eccentric lighting from Argento movies, the eye gouging from Fulci; there's even a scene directly taken from Suspiria.
There seems to be an extremely varied opinion on this film. It's either compared to Friday the 13th (shit) or great Italian slashers like Stagefright (great), but I found it to be somewhere in between, very rare for a slasher film.
It really seems to drag at the end (when an odd Cronenberg element is added to the mix), but the deaths are great and some of the movie is genuinely scary. Suggested for fans of Italian horror or the Guinea Pig films.
