Review of Chrysalis (2007) by Paul C — 26 Aug 2008
Fantasticaly moody storytelling. The characters are a little difficult to get to grips with at first, with the exceptions of Mélanie Thierry's Manon and Marie Guillard's Becker. But that does fit in with the rather harsh story. Great performances from everyone.
This is storytelling the way I like it. You don't really get to know what the mystery of the story is really about until into the second half of the film, and even then don't imagine that you really know what's going on.
The muted colour scheme throughout works well and keeps the sense of their being something missing from the picture.
Superb fight choreography. Nasty, but not disturbing, despite the brutality.
